Introduction
It’s important to understand the Biology and behavior of rodents in order to develop an effective control program.
There are three species of Commensal Rodents, which are of concern to Food Processors and Handlers.
1) House Mouse – HABITAT: Building interiors and Cupboards
2) Norway Rat – HABITAT: Outdoor areas and burrows.
3) Roof Rat – HABITAT: Roofs and climbing areas.
The rodent success stories :
1) Prolific Breeding Pattern
2) Omnivorous
3) Commensal Creatures
4) Easily Transported
5) Distributed Word wide
Methods Of Control
The following step process should be followed to ensure the success of rodent program implemented: –
1) Inspection & identification
2) Sanitation
3) Baiting and trapping
4) Harborage reduction and proofing
5) Monitoring and maintenance baiting
Why Control is difficult?
1) Ability to survive
2) Crypto biotic
3) Opportunistic Feeders
4) Mice – Explorers
5) Rats – Neophobic
Rodent Control – With this treatment program, we advise the customer to seal all the entry points within the premises larger than 1cm in diameter. We replace rodent baits in the rodent bait station within the premise and routinely inspect the rodent bait station.

Treatment Plan
We use the following Rodenticides and equipment; –
Baraki Bait Blocks
Tomcat Wax bait block
Ltd Glue Traps
Bait Boxes
Storm Bait Blocks
Rodenticide control (Chemical)
Chemical control should only be considered as part of a broader control program of eliminating food sources and rodent harborages. Chemical control is generally short-term, and rodents will return if food and shelter are still available.
Rat poisons or rodenticides containing an anti-coagulant, we can supply our customers with the Quality Bait Boxes that will be placed or installed near the entry points to cub rodents’ activities.
Trapping (Use of Bait Boxes and Glue Traps)
Mouse and rat traps differ in size and strength. It is important that the type of rodent is identified, and the proper trap used.
Things we consider when setting Bait traps:
1) Several traps should be used at one time and inspected once a month.
2) Place traps near food preparation areas.
3) Check Multiple catch traps daily; remove any dead rodents and Place a clean Ltd Glue board.
4) Use an insecticidal surface spray around the immediate area to kill any fleas which may leave a trapped rodent’s body.
